IE URL Typing Shortcut

Posted Jun 14, 2007 | by Jason Faulkner

Still on the same topic as yesterday, today I am going to cover a very handy IE keyboard shortcut dealing with typing URL’s. Simply put, by typing the primary domain into the address bar and press Ctrl + Enter, “http://” and “.com” are automatically added to the domain name.

For example, try this:

  1. Open a new IE window.
  2. In the address bar type: pcdailytips
  3. Press Ctrl + Enter.
  4. You are taken to: http://www.pcdailytips.com

While this isn’t a huge time-saver, it is a pretty nice thing to know.

Which Of These Traits Applies To YOUR Computing Life?...

In Firefox, you can also hit Shift-Enter to get “.net” extensions and CTRL-Shift-Enter to get to “.org” extensions as well as CTRL-Enter for “.com”…

Also works in Opera. And has worked in IE since at least version 3.0. Can’t believe so few people know about this useful shortcut.

    Correction. Doesn’t work in Opera.
