Full marks for choosing an AMD processor. The AMD Athlon 64 x 2 (Dual-core processor) is still a good processor and currently powers both of my machines at time of writing. I’ll be building a computer with an AMD Phenom x 3 (Triple-core processor) (Socket AM2+) ready for Windows 7 RTM.
Incidentally I recommend wearing an anti-static wristband connected to electrical earth rather than simply touching metal: That way you know for a fact that all static is taken away from your body.
