Interactive Protein Folding Game

If you are a Folding@Home junkie who is looking for a way to challenge your brain and help contribute to protein folding, then check out the Fold It interactive online puzzle game.

Fold It is a simple game where you interactively solve protein folding puzzles, the same thing Folding@Home accomplishes, but with a twist: your efforts to fold the proteins are captured for potentially improving folding algorithms. How can you playing a game help contribute to protein folding? Well, from their website:

We’re collecting data to find out if humans’ pattern-recognition and puzzle-solving abilities make them more efficient than existing computer programs at pattern-folding tasks. If this turns out to be true, we can then teach human strategies to computers and fold proteins faster than ever!

I’m not exactly sure how this will work, but it surely couldn’t hurt. So, if you are looking for a quick time killer, give Fold It a try to see what it is like.
