IRC Privacy? Ha! *What* Privacy?

Regular Joe’s and Jane’s know IRC as "chat rooms". Nerds that love to correct people just to make themselves feel important say "No, it is not a chat room, it is a channel".

Whatever.

Whoops, I didn’t type that right.

w/e

Much better.

TechCrunch has reported that a web site called IRSeek is (and has been) logging public IRC channel conversations. What that basically means is that whatever you type in a public channel, be it on EFnet, DalNET or what-have-you will has probably already been logged and can be found by anyone.

Some chatters in IRC may be troubled by this because they stupidly blab about all sorts of personal information while chatting in public channels. You would be shocked what some people will reveal in IRC. Age, location, sometimes their personal phone numbers.. yeah. Very stupid.

Note to stupid IRC chatters: There is no privacy in a public IRC channel – period. You would be an idiot to believe otherwise. So if you revealed the Colonel’s secret recipe for Kentucky Fried Chicken in chat.. man are you in trouble..
