I think the only real reason they offer the service is because they want to offer a bundle type package for those that are hesitant to buy from more than one service provider. I am in the IM/Web business and even I can be frightened of dealing with all the different Web Hosts, Domain Registrants, Designers, Data Centers, etc. and it's hard to keep track unless you have a rolodex the size of an elephant next to your desk. It is probably great for beginners though, and gives them a way in.

Well, I'm not in the biz and I still think it's too expensive for what you get. .Mac, along with the Mac Mini has been Apple's bastard child since its inception. It's almost completely ignored aside from a few occasional perks (doggie treats) that Apple tosses us.

The only reasons I continue to keep my account are for my e-mail address and the great .Mac syncing. Sometimes I use the other services, but rarely.

.Mac should be $49. I think that's fair.

I've used .Mac for three years, and just last month I felt vindicated for $300 in services.
The hard drive on my MBP died (Apple replaced it for free with a larger drive) and I was not looking forward to all of the system work that goes into restoring a system. .Mac to the RESCUE!
I entered my network password and clicked a few buttons. Within 30 minutes of powering up the blank slate of a laptop, my system was completely restored with all passwords, networks, permissions and files that I had created prior to the crash!
I know that these services are available separately, but the simplicity and seamless execution were worth every nickel.

Here's my review of a Dodge Caravan:

I don't need a car for 7 people. There are faster and cheaper ways to get from point A to point B. Besides, my family consists of one person. I drive a formula one car so I have no need to spend money on a minivan. If you're a family and need one, you can go get one. Me, I'm returning it to the dealership.

Such a pointless review. The whole reason for the service is the integration with the iLife suite and convenience of working from your application. Why would you even write a .Mac review if you've got it all figured out, unlike all those people who haven't, and need something simple??

You forgot to talk about how you can create video with iMovie and upload it to the web.

I'm not surprised that you, as a professional "in the biz", were not happy with the offerings. However, the audience that .Mac targets are people who are new to the Internet and don't know how to format and resize content to be "web-ready". In that regard I think the suite is appropriate.
