This app is way not the best.
I prefer MailStore Home, its free, can all do the things above + supports alot more mailservers.
It also supports pop3 and imap, both with TSL and SSL and supports batch fetching for multiple mailboxes.
All in a very smooth design and intuitive manner.

Here's another reason: A friend of mine was going through divorce. Here mail account (through sbcglobal.net) was in her husband's name. In this, she was keeping track of her case details. At one point, her husband decided to change account settings and she could no longer access her email!

1. Download Windows Live Mail client.
2. Configure Hotmail account.
3. Client downloads mail automatically.

It's roughly the same as if you were using IMAP except it's using a proprietary Microsoft mail protocol via HTTP.

Good question, I have a good answer for you.

If you don't login to your Hotmail at least once every 90 days (last I knew), the account will reset and all the mail in it will vanish. Yahoo! Mail will also reset inactive accounts after a certain period of time.

If you back up your mail locally, if the account resets your mail isn't lost.

I'm confused, if I just use web based mail such as hotmail or yahoo, why would I need to back it up? It's not like I am running out of space...
