KNOPPIX v6.7.1 Quick Overview

KNOPPIX has been around a good long time and is one of the best Linux distributions for LiveCD use. In fact, KNOPPIX was one of the first OSes able to be run “live”.

The latest version of KNOPPIX is 6.7.1. Still very fast, still very good in LiveCD mode, still one of the best distros you could ever use as for emergency recovery CD use.

If you haven’t checked out KNOPPIX in a while, do yourself a favor and check it out – especially for those of you who haven’t updated your emergency recovery CD (or Flash stick) in a while. If you need a reason why, KNOPPIX has the latest Linux kernel and other video drivers to support a very large amount of modern PC hardware – a must for a recovery CD OS.

  1. Great video Rich, as always. Knoppix has a huge selection of excellent applications and system
tools, all without any changes to your current system setup. Knoppix is
also a great choice for carrying on a flash drive. For a PC Tech guy, it is a must because of hardware recognition. Like you mentioned, is it better than Mint (underdog) ? No, in my humble opinion but it gives it a run for the money even though it is designed for live distribution. I do occasionally install it on a hard drive for the individual who is financially challenged and I am providing them with with recycled hardware.

    • Thank you.

On the desktop, I consider Mint the better choice, but for a live distro, Knoppix is pretty much the only game in town. If I was to go with a lightweight desktop however, I’d use Xubuntu mainly because since it’s so closely related to Ubuntu, it should (keyword there) have better drivers and apps, or at least one would assume.

  2. How/where do I download version 6.7 that you showed?   Following links to Knoppix website gets me to mirror sites but most (all?) contain version 6.2.x.   Would help if you posted link to site/mirror that contains release you showed.   Thanks.

  3. Plenty of earlier versions, but not 6.7.1. Also: Can’t find a DVD .iso, only CD. Where is 6.7.1 DVD?
