Link Of The Day: Gethuman

image The dreaded voice-recognition automated phone system. We’ve all dealt with them and we all hate them. There’s not a single person who has ever said "Yes, I like this better than pressing buttons on my phone to get where I want to go." Whoever devised the voice-recognition automated phone system should be shot, tarred, feathered and shot again.

Gethuman exists for the sole reason of getting to a real live human and skip the automated b.s. There are tons of companies listed. You can search by name or just go by alphabetical order. For example, the V category has all the Verizon numbers and states that for Verizon FiOS support, call 888-553-1555 and just keep saying "agent" until you get to someone. And it works.

Hopefully Big Corporate will wake up someday and realize voice recognition automated phone systems were a bad idea from the word go. Until then we’ve got web sites like Gethuman to assist us.

I actually prefer automated system if I’m doing something simple (411 for example), but it is annoying.

Other people I can think of that would prefer automated are those who still have rotary phones. Like my grandparents. They don’t even have a computer, so Gethuman wouldn’t work for them.

Still, sounds like a useful service.
