The bottom line:
The SoundMan Xtrusio DSR-100 successfully brings affordable, high-quality speakers to the masses, and they look damn cool, too. The subwoofer has a small footprint, thanks to the oval shape, fits neatly under a desk, and still manages to pound out some impressive bass. The four satellites are matched well to the sub, and the unique shape angles slightly upward to aim the sound at the user when seated. Installation is simple thanks to the color coded/idiot-proof wires and connectors. The remote brings common controls and a headphone jack to the desktop, another great feature. Throughout testing, from strafing runs in a P-51 Mustang to DVD playback, we were pleased with the sound of the Xtrusio system. The upgrade to a 4.1 system is a must for a serious gamer, once you’ve experienced true positional audio in a game, there’s no going back. At only $180, the system is priced well below the high-end systems, and just above systems like the FPS 2000 from Creative, which only features a 25W sub and 7W satellites. The Xtrusio sounds good, looks good, and has 100W of power, for less than $200. Now toss out those computer show specials on your desktop, dammit.
