It was announced on Tuesday that LogMeIn.com has released a free preview version of its remote desktop service for Mac OS X. This wasn’t news for me, though, as I have had it installed and running on my Mac for at least 2 weeks now.
LogMeIn.com has long had remote desktop service available for Windows. I have been a Pro subscriber under Windows for some time now, allowing me to remotely control my machine as well as move files to and from it. I do not use it as much as I used to since switching to the Mac, so it was good news to see the company making inroads into OS X.
While this is a preview release, it seems to work quite well. I have not had a single hiccup in using the remote desktop access for the Mac. Unfortunately, they do not yet have the Pro features available for the Mac (printing or transferring files), but I assume that will follow.
Personally, I am also glad to see somebody else get in on remote desktop for the Mac. Apple Remote Desktop was the only option for awhile, and I hate to see Apple be the only option for anything.
LogMeIn for Mac will require OS X 10.4.9 or higher. Works for me in Leopard just fine.
