Making Money Online: Is It Realistic For You?

As many of you probably have noticed, our premium PCMech University program is comprised of two main themes: becoming a power user of technology and putting the Internet to use to generate an income and put money in our pocket. But, you might be asking yourself: Is the idea of making money on the Internet really a possibility?

Is this something that a lucky few can do? Or something YOU can do?

Since you’re a smart reader, I’m quite sure you already realize where I’m going with this article. And you’re probably right.

Of course, this is something anybody can do! Let me answer a few questions, FAQ style…

Why would you want to do this?

Aside from the whole point of simply making more money, let’s face it. We’re all (on this site anyway) geeks. We like playing around with our computers. Many readers spend time doing things on their computer, but they have to report to a “regular J-O-B” for the 9 to 5. Now, what if you could actually generate some revenue with your computer? What if you didn’t necessarily have to report to the 9 to 5 job? Or, what if you could simply be a little less dependent on your job? And you could do what you like: surf the Internet, use your computer, and talk about something which you find interesting.

Is success online a matter of luck?

No. Your success is dependent on the amount of work you put into it and your imagination and creativity. But, I firmly believe luck has nothing (or very little) to do with it.

If you start with a firm bedrock of knowledge (which you can learn), then apply yourself to it, you can make this work for you.

So, What You’re Saying Is That It’s Hard?

The answer depends on you. If you’re trying to become the next dot-com millionaire, then of course you’re going to have to put quite a bit of work into it. However, if you’re just trying to build up some supplemental income, you do not have to do it full-time.

In fact, it boils down to how you choose to set things up for yourself. Many people have online businesses which run practically on auto-pilot and make money even while they’re sleeping. You can set this up, too. It might be more work at the outset, but is actually less work once it is up and running.

I don’t even know where to start.

Don’t worry. You’re not alone. Trust me, everybody who is now making money online (myself included) started at ground zero. The trick (if you want to call it that) is to not let your lack of knowledge now turn into a paralysis. The information is out there. People are teaching the basics. You can learn it, then develop your own ways of doing things.

Aren’t many of the “make online online” things on the Internet actually scams?

Yeah, many of them are. And it’s a problem. There are many people selling information on this subject who are actual authorities. But, there are many others who are fakes. They take information that others are saying, recompile it and make themselves look like an expert. Then they sell it.

There are a LOT of people looking to the Internet to make money, and wherever you have a high demand, you’re going to have people trying to take advantage of that.

But, don’t make the mistake of thinking that everybody selling products in this area are scam artists. Many are not. What you have to do is learn to pick through the weeds in order to find the real roses. Look to learn from people who have actually done what they teach.

It is also good to try to find people who have been able to do it outside of the “make money online” market. For example, a well known internet marketer named Frank Kern today makes good money by selling people information on how to make money on the Internet. But, he has also made a lot of money selling information about dog training. That’s a completely different market, and the fact that he’s able to make good money selling dog training information shows others that what he says about internet marketing is actually the real thing.

Quick Pitch

The PCMech University program is unique in that we provide solid information about computers and technology, while ALSO providing solid information on how to make use of the Internet to generate an income. I’m aware that’s an interesting mix, but in my world, they are tightly related. I make a good, full-time income while being a computer power user, adept at the latest technology, AND applying skills on the Internet to make money and support my family. So for me, this is all very much related.

I can literally play with my computer all day and get paid. And I want as many of PCMech’s readers as possible to do the same. Because it makes for a fun group, that’s for sure!

Chances are, you’re reading this on your computer right now. You happen to be sitting in front of one of the most powerful tools for making money. The difference is that you have to have the knowledge and the willingness to give it a go.

Wrapping Up

So, that’s my Friday pep talk! I wanted to write this quick piece in order to address a few of the questions I have been hearing from people.

What other questions might you have? What barriers do you perceive to your ability to make money on the Internet? And again, I’m not talking here about a lack of know-how. Instead, I’m looking for any concerns that might keep you from starting in the first place. Feel free to post comments.
