Maxtop CSX-7788KEB Mid-Tower

The CSX-7788KEB is one light show of a case. All it needs is the Skittles being blown out of its blow holes. All in all, the rainbows do turn this case into a bit of a show on its own rather than a serious case for serious hardware buffs. But, then again, some PC users get off on these types of case mods. I do suggest you use this case in your home or home office, though. I’m not sure what kind of reactions you would get using this case in your place of business, but it might be nice to have a camera. I should add, though, that the CCFL lights can be turned off if it makes you feel to girly. And, you can ultimately disconnect all of the lights if you so choose. After the novelty wears off, you’ll likely find yourself doing exactly that.

Underneath the sunshine, though, the case is a pretty practical case and, in my opinion, a real bargain. Lets look at the pros and cons:

Pros:

  • The black and silver exterior looks pretty cool

  • Plenty of space

  • Removable motherboard mounting plate

  • Pretty decent power supply included

  • Great airflow and room for additional cooling

  • Lighting effects (to some this may be a con, but hey, I have to consider it based on the reason one would buy this in the first place)

Cons:

  • All the fans create some dB

  • Lights prove to be a bit cheesy after a while (that’s just me)

That said, let me again give the rundown on the pricing. I got a lot of stuff packaged with this thing for the purposes of my review, not all of which you would get if you bought it unless you seeked it out. So, here it is:

  • The “base” CSX-7788KEB-Win (no side window). Primarily available via Newegg.com, which is the primary reseller of Maxtop cases. – $55

  • The side panel with window is called the PCA-016BLK. – $16.

  • The dual tri-color CCFL pack – $16 (needs to be ordered from Maxtop directly)

  • LED fan – $5 – (needs to be ordered from Maxtop directly)

The case is a pretty good buy, in my opinion. The 7788KEB is a good, practical case with your own personal glowy niceness to boot.
