When Microsoft first started using “Live” in attachment to basically everything they were doing, this basically did nothing but confuse the crap out of people – and the fact that the name just didn’t stick.
Microsoft has decided to drop “Live” from its branding across the board. For you Hotmail users out there, you’ll notice there is no mention of “Live” anywhere on the login page and is instead just “Microsoft Hotmail”. Bing dropped using “Live” a while ago, and other products will follow suit, such as Windows Live Mail (probably) going back to just Windows Mail or possibly Windows Mail App.
A large reason for the drop of “Live” is because of the upcoming Windows 8; the emphasis is on a simpler naming convention.
