Microsoft’s System Sweeper is:
…a recovery tool that can help you start an infected PC and perform an offline scan to help identify and remove rootkits and other advanced malware.
I’ve not had the opportunity to test this software as of yet, but the fact Microsoft is offering this is pretty darned cool. They make mention that this isn’t a replacement for a full anti-virus suite, but in a pinch is very useful mainly due to the fact it can run offline easily and was designed that way.
Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are available.

Nice find, adding it to my toolkit.
Update: I just ran a quick scan with the 32 bit version on a known infected computer. It ran perfectly and found many Trojans. I will run a full scan next to see if it finds more. Very nice, impressive. Just what the Doctor ordered, a boot-able malware / rootkit solution.
Thanks for testing it out, very much appreciated. Good to know it works like it’s supposed to.
I really like that Microsoft is developing but not charging for things like this and MSE.
