When I work at home 2 days out of the week, I use Skype as phone to send and receive calls. One thing I noticed, however, is after upgrading to Windows 7 the Skype icon no longer minimizes to the system tray. This is definitely a Windows 7 thing and not a Skype thing as I am using the exact same version which previously minimized to the system tray in XP/Vista.
As a fix for this, simply change the compatibility mode of Skype to run as Windows Vista SP2:
- Right click on the shortcut you use to launch Skype and select Properties.
- Go to the Compatibility tab.
- Check “Run this program in compatibility mode for:”
- Select “Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)” from the list.
- Apply your changes.
Now when you start Skype from this shortcut, clicking the X will minimize it to the tray instead of to the task bar.

One of the “Advanced settings” in Skype is “Keep Skype in the taskbar while I’m signed in.” Un-check it and Skype goes to the system tray.
This is not an option in version 4.2.0.155.
From reviewing the release notes, it looks like this was added in a release a couple weeks ago. Thanks for the update.
Same thing with Windows Live Messenger, same way to fix it.
Same thing over here , It is excitably Windows Live Messenger . Thanks for your information.
also commandline options:
Does Skype for Windows have command line options?
Yes, you can use these options:
/nosplash – do not display splash screen when Skype starts
/minimized – Skype is minimized to system tray when it starts
/callto:nameornumber – call the specified Skype Name or SkypeOut number
/shutdown – close Skype
/secondary – allows you to start an additional skype.exe instance
Actually there is a built-in option to make Skype disappear from taskbar:
1. In Skype, go to “Tools -> Options”
2. Click on “Advanced” tab to go to “Advanced” settings
3. Uncheck the “Keep Skype in the taskbar while I’m signed in” option
