Actually, there are numerous ways to watch video on your TV via your PC.

Website Content: Connect a DVI/HDMI cable from your video card to your TV, or;
MPEG/AVI/DivX media files: Apple TV, Western Digital HD Media Player or SanDisk Sansa TakeTV.

I like that it’s finally a way to watch cable shows from Showtime, HBO, etc. for free without subscribing- not to mention it’s a great way to kill time

Just one problem…you have to watch it in blur vision on your computer monitor while seated at your desk chair.

One more downside – most major networks only allow those with IP addresses from within their home country to access the content.
For example, most, if not all of the major players in the US allow access to only US based IP’s, Australia has a couple of sites that allow Australian access only and again the same thing goes for many networks in the UK.

In a way it makes sense to limit bandwidth to subscribers within the same country as the network, so their servers don’t crash under the load of mass global access, but it’s a pain if you’re overseas and want to watch shows you missed back home. Although, I guess you can get a Slingbox for that if you really want your shows that badly.
