Most Annoying Software Ever?

Here is a fun one for you today. In this ZDNet article, “Annoying software: a rogues gallery“, the author puts together a list of 10 annoying pieces of software.

Among those making the list:

  • Realplayer
  • iTunes
  • Adobe PDF Reader
  • Norton

I cannot really disagree with the author here as I have used several of the products discussed (the first 3 listed above) and since removed them from my system for the exact reasons pointed out.

I would also like to point one of my own:

  • Winzip: Why do people still download this and put up with the “nag screens” when there are dozens of free alternatives which are just as good?

Norton is a real pain when somebody has installed it with a password, it’s expired, and the people that installed it won’t tell you the password.

I ripped it out by the roots, but my god what a pain.

Funny how I was laughing and nodding at almost all the programs listed (excepting iTunes, I have never used it).

Thank goodness for free software like Real Alternative, and if you want a zero bloat and nag Adobe Acrobat, go grab an older copy (like version 5.0, which is what I use).

Windows Update has to be the worst part of Vista, I had to reformat a system because it decided to die and refused to check or install updates.

Microsoft do us a favor, please go back to web based update like in XP, far fewer problems.
