Socket AM2 and AM2+ coolers are similar; but they have a tensioniser lever that you push down after locating those 2 clips; which makes the process of locating the clips easier. (Though still not that easy. With practice I’ve learned to do it with fingers alone in the case of socket AM2.)
Personally when building a comp with a socket AM2 motherboard I fit the motherboard first; then I install the CPU and cooler afterwards. You might find either way easier in such a case. (?)
