In my opinion, of all the remote connection options available without a doubt the most robust and, well, simply the best is Microsoft’s Terminal Services. Terminal Services allows you dynamically configure screen size, includes copy-paste functionality (client to server) and even allows you to integrate sound and printers easily, among other features.
On improvement in the latest release of the Terminal Service client is the ability to have the remote connection span across multiple monitors on the client machine. This article on MSDN explains how it works. The article refers to the Windows Vista Terminal Server client, but this same functionality is available on the Terminal Server client which has been available via Windows Update (optional updates) for over a year now.
I didn’t know this functionality ever existed, so working at home is going to be much more productive for me now.
