Quake 3 demo
Settings:
When running the Q3 demo test, I set all eye candy off to
achieve maximum FPS. (Version 1.17) Score are in Frames Per Second
Super PC PC-100

Take a look at the scores in 800×600. Not bad at all. But, with
res set at 1024×768 the scores show a dramatic drop from 16 to 32 bit. I would
attribute this to both the video card and the PC-100, there’s a bottleneck
lurking in there somewhere.
Mushkin
PC-133

The Mushkin PC-133 really impressed me with these results. As
well as with the memory benchmarks above. Even though I still had the dramatic
drop in FPS running 1024×768 in 32 bit mode. Something I could live with. Look
at the 16 bit scores for 1024×768. That is "almost" 10 FPS more than
with the PC-100. No, 10 FPS will not help you defeat the lamer with the
"aimbot", but with scores like this, it makes the game so much more
fun to play.
In closing, I hope this article has enlightened some of
you with a little info on the performances in RAM. The quality of the Mushkin RAM
really showed what it can do. The graphs show the results and there is a
differences. Upgrading to PC-133 is a personal decision. Would you benefit from
running the PC-133? Your pc would. If you are looking to get the most out of
your pc, then PC-133 is a must, if getting the most FPS and speed out of your
FSB, then quality RAM from Mushkin is a
practical choice.
I would like to thank Mushkin
for supplying www.pcmech.com with their
outstanding 256 meg stick of Rev2 cas2 PC-133. And my wife, for her never ending
patience.
