Step 5b. Configure the Port
Once your JetDirect box is configured, run the “Add JetDirect Printer” wizard. It really is useful. From within the wizard, list the JetDirect printers and select the one you have just set up. Then, give it a name and click finish. Now you have a new port.
Step 5c. Add a New Printer
When you finish the JetDirect Printer wizard, it should automatically start the Add New Printer wizard. Make sure you select Local Printer. Even though you know that the printer is elsewhere on the network, you are accessing it just as you would a local device. Install the necessary printer drivers, and set the location of the printer to the port you have just created. Voila! You have just installed a new networked printer via a print server device.
Step 6. Configure Other Computers
All you need to do now is go around to the other computers, install the Add JetDirect Printer wizard, and install the printer port. With that finished, merely install the printer drivers and you are done.
Conclusion
Whether you went the all-inclusive route or the print server route, the advantages of a print server are crystal-clear: there is no reliance on PC’s, they work universally, and best of all, you can tweak them from anywhere on your network.
