No More ‘Grandfathered’ Unlimited Verizon Data Plans

The ride is over for VZW customers who were able to keep their unlimited plans for this long (VZW introduced tiered pricing some time ago, but existing customers were allowed to keep their unlimited data plans), as Verizon is dumping unlimited data plans completely.

Verizon CFO Fran Shammo – now hated by many VZW customers big time – explained that “you will have to go on to the data share plan” and basically have no choice in the matter.

Why is Big Telco dumping all the unlimited plans?

This is a classic case of overselling the service and not having the infrastructure to back it up. Big Telco has been notorious for doing thing ever since mobile phones became popular, and it’s not going to stop any time soon.

Well, not until long-range Wi-Fi becomes a real thing and everyone dumps Big Telco for Skype or Google Voice. Smile

You and I both know it’s not simply a case of capacity.  $$$

  2. You know, my husband and I have been Verizon customers since looooooong before it was known as Verizon. We have weathered through huge price hikes, some sketchy equipment issues (Blackberry), some not so fair “insurance” replacement phones that were not up to par, etc. All the while, we stayed because in the long run they seemed to try to work with us because we were loyal customers and put us into plans that gave us the best pricing they had available and we happen to be “grandfathered” data plan customers. But, if it is true that Verizon plans to do away with unlimited data plans, then it is absolutely SAYONARA time to Verizon because they have nothing else to offer that will keep me around. They are not that competitive in pricing and I can buy my iPhone from somewhere else.
