Number of Vulnerabilities Known in OS X: 106

I read that Mac OS X has 106 known vulnerabilities. Who found these security boo-boo’s, you may ask? The NIST.

In the first 6 months of ‘07, 78 security boo-boo’s were found in OS X.

If you’re asking how many were found in Windows in that same time span, the number was significantly lower.

Surprised? I sure was.

Aside from that, the thing that’s troublesome is many OS X users run their box(es) "stock" with no additional security – and are quite proud of it.

Dumb, dumb maneuver.

Even Linux guys know that you have to run security to keep your OS free from intrusions as best you can.

Mac attacks are not the norm, however they could be if those computers become more commonplace.

One thing is clear: Macs are becoming more "appetizing" as targets.

Obviously it’s not a wise move to run any OS without some kind of security. If you run your box without securing it you’re just asking for trouble – no matter what you have.
