Online Privacy and Anonymity

Screencasts

To further assist you in your quest for everlasting online privacy and anonymity, I have compiled a few Screen Cast tutorials.  From setting up cookies restrictions with your Firefox browser to cleaning your online tracks with a popular program called CCleaner, it’s all here.  Moreover, since this is our first go at Screen Casting, any and all comments, questions, and recommendation are welcome.  Enjoy.

Tweaking Firefox – Setting Cookie Restrictions
As I mentioned above, cookies install themselves on your computer without your consent.  By using utilities like the MVPS HOSTS file and Spyware Blaster, you can restrict a wide variety of sites from connecting to your computer and secretly placing cookies on your system.  Fortunately, in Firefox, you can set your own cookie restrictions.  In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to prohibit all sites from setting cookies on your computer.  Then, I’ll demonstrate how to set up exceptions so that only certain, trusted sites, are able to load and retrieve cookies.

CCleaner – Erasing Our Tracks

In the anonymity section of this article, I stressed on how important it is to clean our online tracks.  Our browsing history, cache, and cookies can comprise our identity if they fall into the wrong hands.  Luckily, you can prevent this from happening by using CCleaner to erase all your online tracks with a few clicks of the mouse.  To be most effective, run CCleaner at least once a week.

Conclusion

Hopefully, by the end of this article, you are now armed with the tools and knowledge to protect your online privacy and preserve your anonymity.  By understanding what poses a threat to our anonymity and online privacy, such as hackers, identity thieves, spyware, and viruses, we can take the appropriate measures to keep our personal information in our, and only our, possession.
