Linux, for a long time, has natively supported virtual desktops in their window managers but this feature is not standard within the Windows GUI. No problem though as there are plenty of freely available tools to add this functionality. One such tool is the open source VirtuaWin.
In addition to the typical features you would expect from a virtual desktop tool, VirtuaWin has lots of plugins which do everything from allowing unique wallpapers on each desktop to keeping track of the time you spend on each.
If you already have a virtual desktop tool you like or you just want to give them a try to see if they are for you, VirtuaWin is worth a look.

I've tried a lot of VD managers and the one I eventually settled on is Dexpot. Highly configurable, way more options, and generally more stable and well designed than others. Plus it has a very good auto-updater, and it's free for personal use.
However It's been a long time since I tried any others including VirtuaWin, so maybe they have improved.
