We all know that Apple is pretty, shall we say, protective about the Iphone. Remember when they denied Google Voice purely because it would help competition?
Similarly, Apple has never let a competing browser to Safari onto the device.
Opera, however, is calling them out. Opera has submitted Opera Mini to the Apple App Store, but they did it with style. They not only announced it with a press release, but they even launched a count-up timer. That’s right, the clock is now ticking to see how long it takes Apple to approve the app.
This is a great example of preemptive PR. As icing on the cake, they basically threw up the middle finger to Apple and DARED them to deny it.
The app review process for Apple has been notoriously annoying. The timeline isn’t predictable, plus it is always clear that Apple is looking out for #1 and not always for the end users.
I am an Iphone user. I love the phone. I, for one, love to see a company like Opera calling them out. Question is – will Apple care?
