Outsource Scanning And Organizing Receipts

Posted Apr 23, 2009 | by Jason Faulkner | 4 Comments

If you need (or like) to keep your receipts for either tax or reimbursement purposes, you have to be organized. For obvious reasons, having them available digitally is probably easiest since they don’t consume (physical) storage space and are readily available. Of course, scanning these in can be quite a task… or you can just use Shoeboxed.

Shoeboxed does the grunt work for you: scanning your receipts so you have all the data you need for taxes, bookkeeping, and expense reports, and now scanning business cards for easy contact management.

So step away from your scanner; mail your receipts and business cards to Shoeboxed and we’ll do the rest.

Shoeboxed is a pay-per service, but if you need to do this the price is very competitive when compared to your time. One thing to be wary of though would be sending receipts which have sensitive (i.e. credit card number) information, but for the most part I don’t think this is printed on customer copies anymore. If so, you can just use a marker to scratch them out.

This is one of the most dangerous suggestions I’ve ever seen. What an opportunity for someone to commit identity theft!

How can someone commit ID theft from a receipt? It doesn’t have any personal information at all.

Don’t forget the employees that give you the receipt have a copy they (the store) keep. By this logic every time you get a receipt you need to worry about the person giving it to you stealing your ID.

Implementing a paperless office solution like the ones offered by Miles Technologies can empower you to stay organized without having to turn your confidential documents over to an outside party.

It’s pretty scary since we have to mail the entire receipt which sometimes contain confidential information. Although this thing will definitely save you time.
