PC vs. Mac – Round 2

You know how the story goes so far:

  1. Mac released an ad campaign: I’m a Mac and I’m a PC
  2. Microsoft countered with their I’m a PC / Windows 7 ad campaign

As this post from iThinkDiff points out, the two have taken round 2 to the web with both Microsoft and Apple launching their own “why pick us” sites.

While both sites point out their strengths, they also focus quite a bit on pointing out the others weakness with a sort of “Ha! You can’t do that on Mac/Windows!” undertone. Whether it is Coke vs. Pepsi, AT&T vs. Verizon, Ford vs. Chevy, (the list goes on); does this type of advertising really make an impact on your purchasing decision or does it just fuel the “fanboy” debates?

I hope we have all learned by now that everything boils down to personal preference. One is not better than the other when it comes to Windows or Mac. One is a hammer and the other a screwdriver, both tools to get things done but with different strengths.

  1. The issue is the audience, I think. If you're asking here, with a more high tech crowd, then the answer is probably no. Most here have made up their mind long ago whether they're Mac vs PC, so it's just a fanboy debate.

But to the novice? I think it does have some impact. At first, anyway. Once they get a good helping from both sides, though, most people become numb to it. If there is some convincing argument from one side or the other, it might sway them, though (which is why Mac and PC keep trying so hard).

  2. I just get a kick out of watching them, really.

We actually have a post coming soon where we're going to highlight some of the funny spoof videos out there on this whole debate. Funny stuff. Look for it. :-)

  3. They are always fun to watch, although some are down right silly/annoying on both sides.

Here is an unesscapable fact: Apple couldn't get Motorola to produce the next generation of processors/chip sets to keep up with Intel processors/chip sets.

When Apple started using the Intel processor/chip sets the Mac/Windows comparisions went from Operating System and Hardware vs Operating System and Hardware to just Operating System which means anything you can do I can do also, now who does it better?

    Mac or PC?

    :)

My money has always been on the PC…

  4. It seems a lot of Mac users are installing Windows on their Macs anyway… What does that say?

  5. And besides installing more RAM on their Macs, what upgrade options do Mac users have?
Usually not much upgrading options at all unless you pay a minimum of nearly 3 grand for a Mac Pro.

PCs are the best for moding and overclocking and thats what i’m all about. I don’t need Steve Jobs telling me how to run my computer. Steve Jobs can eat a bullet
