There is no doubt that PHP is among the top web development languages used. I have used it for smaller projects and always used a plain text editor (Notepad++) for development, but if you are serious about PHP coding you need a full blown IDE. Both commercial and free tools are reviewed and the article includes a description, rating and pro/con breakdown of each. From the article, each tool received a review of “Good” or better. Of course, this is all subjective so as with anything, find what you like and stick with it.
