Podcast 10-22-2207 : Is It Worth It To Have 64-bit?

Does having a 64-bit processor in your computer really amount to anything if you’re not using server applications? Whether you’re running Windows 64-bit, Mac OS X Tiger or Leopard or a 64-bit Linux, where are the 64-bit apps? What could someone possibly do any better right now with a 64-bit system compared to 32?

I actually have 64 bit Windows Vista. I actually have ran 32 bit and 64 bit on my system. I actually saw a great difference in speed and resources. The 64 bit version uses more resources, but it also allows for more. I have 4GB of ram and it sits idle around 1.6GB. That sucks, but that is why I have 4GB. 32 bit would sit idle around 750MB, but it didn’t recognize all of my ram- instead of 4GB it only showed 2.5. The speed in which all applications would actually run smoother and faster- so much faster. Unlike 32 bit, 64 bit is allowed to use more resources to get the job done. I would recomend 64 bit to anyone- but know that there are less programs and drivers for 64 bit systems. Usually you can find them.
