Powerful Microsoft File Copying Utility

A little known tool from Microsoft titled RichCopy is deemed by the author of the tool’s download page as “the answer to all your file copying needs”. Being a big user and fan of the built in utilities, XCopy and RoboCopy this is a pretty bold statement, however RichCopy takes the functionality of RoboCopy to a new level:

What you’ll find most striking the first time you take RichCopy out for a spin is that it’s a multithreaded copying tool. That means that rather than copying one file at a time in serial order, RichCopy can open multiple threads simultaneously, allowing many files to be copied in parallel and cutting the total time required to complete the operation several times over. You can also pause and resume file copy operations, so if you lose network connectivity at any point, you can just pick up where you left off.

Out of the box, RichCopy includes a graphical configuration so you can control all the parameters of your copy project. If you are moving several large files, the multi-threaded and pause features are fantastic options. Of course, you can use RichCopy from the command line as well which makes this tool clearly superior to RoboCopy.

There are lots of power tools out there for file copying, but this is the only one I know of developed by Microsoft.
