A couple Tuesdays back, I had an important meeting I had to attend. There’s a big charity event that I’m helping to run coming up in the very near future, and we needed to go before a committee to plead our case. We needed to show to them that it was worth granting us the funding to run things. In order to help ourselves along, I brought with me a folder of email records, printed straight from the mail client. As I was printing the stuff out, an interesting thought occurred to me – not everyone might know how to do it. Thankfully, the process is incredibly simple. Here’s how to go about it.
Gmail: While viewing any email thread, you’ll notice on the upper right hand corner of the email frame (right next to the subject of the mail thread), there’s a small icon of a printer. Click it, and you’ll be taken to a printer-friendly version of the mail message, which you can then send directly to paper. If you’re only looking to print one or two messages from the thread, simply click the arrow next to the “reply” button to bring up a drop down menu, and select “print.”
Hotmail: At the top and bottom of each email, you’ll see a colored printer icon. Simply click it and you’ll be taken to a screen where you can print out the whole series of emails. As with Gmail, click the arrow next to “reply’ on any of the messages in the thread to bring up a drop-down menu, where you can choose to print that specific message.
Outlook: Outlook’s a touch more rudimentary than the others on the list. In your mailbox, you’ll need to highlight the message you want to print, then hit the “print” button on the toolbar. The rest is more or less self-explanatory. Unfortunately, you can’t print multiple messages at once – one at a time, I’m afraid.
AIM/AOL Mail: Once you’ve got the email you want to print off open in your browser window, click on “action” in the toolbar. That will bring up a drop-down menu and one of the options on this menu is “Print Message.” You know what to do.
Yahoo!: Yahoo! mail is pretty much the same as Gmail and Hotmail, in this respect. Find the print button, and click it. That’s pretty much all there is to it.
