Many of you may already know this, so this tip is really for those who do not. Properly wrapping your wires (also called cabling) is the process of consistently ‘winding up’ wiring, cables, power cords, etc into a organized loop. Here are a few quick reasons why proper wire wrapping is important:
- Preserves the life of the wire.
- Prevents damage (i.e. minor tears) and reduces wear on the interior wire which can affect signal quality.
- Easier to store/organize (less tangles).
That said, you can find numerous how-to’s on the web (for example, here is one on YouTube), but in a nutshell the basic idea is to be consistent.
Most devices come pre-wrapped and tied with a wire so wrapping in the previously linked video may be difficult. In these cases, for the sake of consistency, it is best to ‘honor’ the initial wrapping when it comes time to wind it up.
If anyone has any specific tips or stories regarding wire wrapping, please share.
