Got another means of protecting yourself against scam and fraud, both online and off.
If there’s a sucker born every minute, there’s a scam artist born every two. You should always be on the lookout for somebody who’s looking to make a quick buck at the expense of others. Unfortunately, it’s not always that easy to tell when someone’s trying to pull a fast one on you, particularly if you aren’t very experienced in such matters. Sometimes, it helps to have a point of reference you can return to if you’re not sure a particular offer is legit.
That’s where Scam Detector comes in.

Scam Detector provides information on hundreds of the most common scams; an encyclopedia of underhanded business tactics. There’s an online library of scams you can look through, as well as an application for both Android and iOS. Currently, it lists over 600 different scams in its database, which is growing larger with each passing day (particularly since Scam Detector is partnered with both the Better Business Bureau and the Identity Theft Resource Center.)
The database is particularly thorough: each scam has a small blurb about the most common tactics involved with the scam, coupled with advice on how to avoid getting hit by it. It covers pretty much everything: email, automotive, telemarketing, travel, and even a few of the more common tactics which con artists use in an effort to siphon money out of unsuspecting, well-meaning individuals. Even if you’re fairly confident you can smell a con from a mile away, it can’t hurt to sign on to the website and have a look, just the same.
