One of the most common annoyances early on with IE7 was that the File Menu wasn’t on top as with most Windows applications. Here’s a quick registry tweak to move it to the top of the window where you would expect to find it:
- Go to Start > Run and type regedit.
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser
- Create a new DWORD value named “ITBar7Position” with a value of 1.
- To undo this tweak, change the value to 0.
Once you make this change, your menu should appear at the top as you would expect.

Or you could just right click on the tool bar that is showing and put a check mark by “Menu Bar”.
NM.. i misunderstood
I opted to ditch the menu bar altogether. Most of the commonly used functions in the menus can be reached via the Page and Tools toolbar buttons. If I absolutely need something in the menu bar then it is just an F10 key press away. The left Alt key also brings the menu bar up.
