If you ever need to quickly hide all of your desktop icons for a web meeting, presentation or such, make use of Windows quick hide / unhide function:

Right click on your desktop > Arrange Icons By > Show Desktop Icons

This way you can always present your desktop in a clean manner, even if it a bit on the messy side.
