Rapid Change

The computer world is a world of fast change.  To fast in
fact, that processing power is said to double ever 18 months.
So, at the 0 month, speed could be said to be 33Mhz.  At the 18th
month, speed would then be 66MHz.  At the 36th month, speed would
then be 133MHz, and so on.  Taking these numbers, and doing a
simple exponential regression, one obtains the following equation:

Current Speed *
(1.039^”X” number of months) = Speed in “X”
number of months

That theory is brought to us by one
of the executive heads of Intel.  Surprisingly, this theory seems
to be true, for the most part.  Although, this theory only
applies to processing power, not to processing speed.

Take for instance the introduction of
the Pentium class processor.  The Pentium was so powerful, that a
60Mhz Pentium meet or beat the performance of the 100Mhz version of
their prior processor class, the i486.

We can use this equation then, to
predict processor speeds within the same class of CPU.  For
instance, the Pentium iii BE processor can be predicted by Christmas
time by using the following equation:

1000MHz x (1.039^8) = 1358.07

So, hopefully, by the Christmas
buying season, we will see processor speeds of around 1350Mhz, or
1.35GHz.

Misc Rants and Raves.
Due to the lack of worth while news to publish here in Transistorized
and the Tormented, I’d like to share a few of my small rants with you,
just to vent.  If you agree, or disagree, I’d be glad to hear
from you.  Check my e-mail with the link at the top of this page.

  • Not using turn signal while
    driving
  • Not Obeying “Right turn No
    Stop” signs while driving
  • Long lines
  • Predators of the Welfare system
  • Poachers
  • People getting in my way during
    opening day of fishing.

Thanks for letting me vent!
