Windows XP, by default, has a “Log Off” option in the Start Menu and on the boot up welcome screen. In some instances, this could be troublesome. Especially if the PC is used by novices who might think using that option is the proper way to log off of the internet. Besides, unless the PC is on a network, it is not really a necessary option. Most Windows XP users just use the PC themseleves and do not use multiple users. There is a way to remove this option from Windows by editing your registry. As always, I recommend backing up your registry for making any changes. Here goes:
Go to the Start Menu | Run and type “regedit” to open your registry editor. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Microsoft | Windows | CurrentVersion | Policies | Explorer. Then right-click and choose New -> DWORD value. Set the name to NoLogOff and press Enter. Then double-click the new entry and enter 1 as the Value. Save your changes. Next time you restart, the Log Off option will be absent.
