Heads up to all you tech geeks out there: Samsung’s got a new microSD card on the way, and it’s sexy.
They’ve developed a 32GB card that boasts a class 10 speed rating, with read/write rates of 24 mbps/12 mbps. Now, those of you who aren’t technologically inclined are going to want an explanation of this one-preferably in plain English. I mean, from my tone, you’ve probably got an idea that this is something to be excited about…but at the same time, you’ve no idea just why you should be excited. I’ll put this into perspective for you.
First and foremost, the ‘class 10′ speed rating. Basically, that means that the new Samsung card is at the highest pinnacle as far as speed goes. It’s the highest speed category that can be assigned to a card. And now, you’re saying “yes, thank you. We get the idea. This thing is fast.” Ah, but how fast?
A basic SD card has got a read/write speed of 7.2/1.2 mbps, or megabytes per second. Pretty self explanatory, that. Most class 10 cards have a read/write speed of 10 mbps. Now, consider the fact that these SD cards are probably more than twice to five times the size of this device. Yeah, this little guy’s powerful.

The new 32GB memory card incorporates 32Gb 3-bit NAND flash memory chips and a proprietary 3-bit NAND controller to deliver the high performance. The new card follows the introduction of Samsung’s 30 nanometer (nm) class*, 32 gigabit (Gb) 3-bit-per-cell (3-bit) NAND-based 32 gigabyte (GB) microSD cards in February 2010. By applying the finer 20-nm-class process technology, the productivity of the chips is raised over 30 percent. As an industry pioneer, Samsung plans to continue to aggressively introduce new NAND-based mobile memory solutions for timely market adoption. Mass production of its 20nm-class 64Gb 3-bit NAND designed on advanced toggle NAND architecture is anticipated for early next year.
