I have always wondered why cell carriers provide a ridiculous amount of voice minutes, yet charge additional fees for text messaging. From a technical standpoint, it seems the voice data stream would be much more intensive on their network as opposed to a 140 character text string. Regardless, if you are an iPhone user and want to be able to send texts without having to pay carrier charges, check out Textfree.
IS IT REALLY FREE?
Yep, send and receive unlimited FREE texts from an iPod touch or iPhone to any US mobile phone.
No catch, no hidden anything, no yearly fees!
WHAT MAKES TEXTFREE SO SPECIAL?
- Only texting app that gives you a phone number.
- Only texting app where texts DON’T come from a weird number or email address.
- Only texting app that supports ALL US carriers.
Notice that Textfree provides you with a number which you would use to send and receive texts, so it is not 100% seamless. To support this financially, there are some ads which you have the option to purchase your way out of if they prove to be annoying.
For serious and casual texters alike, this may be a great way to avoid carrier charges if the unlimited plan proves to be somewhat pricey. Of course, data plan rates will apply as you would be using KB as opposed to texts…
