Setting Up a Software Firewall

Below, I will list out some of the common firewalls out there.

ZoneAlarmFreeProbably the most popular free firewall on the internet. Offers all the basic features you will need. The Pro version offers more robust config options, cookie control, ad blocking, etc.
Sygate Personal FirewallFreeSame basic features as Zonealarm, but allows more fine-tuned control of trusted IP addresses, ports, protocols, etc. Online tools can perform test scans of your system and look for vulnerabilities.
Tiny Personal FirewallFreeSame basic features but with a smaller footprint. Version 4.5 is free, but 5.0 is free but expires in 30 days.
Norton Internet Security 2003DemoA suite of utilities including Anti-Virus, Personal Firewall, Privacy Control, Spam Alert and Parental Control.
BlackIce PC ProtectionDemoUsed to be known as BlackIce Defender. It performs all of the standard protection, but also helps you learn the nature of detected intrusions and find out valuable information on the hacker.
McAfee FirewallSharewareA fairly robust firewall with all the standard options you would expect from a paid firewall.
AnalogX PortBlockerFreeNot a firewall in the traditional sense, it enables you to control access to internet ports and log access attempts on them. Good for servers.
Kerio Personal FirewallFreeAnother nice free personal firewall
