I can dial in my Motorola ROKR from ages ago (2.5 years) by touch without looking at the keypad. I only need the PHONE to make calls and send/receive text messages. I don't need to be glued to Facebook all day. I leave that for home in my real computer with a real keyboard with a fast Internet connection and above all, a large 22-inch widescreen monitor.

Maybe I am old fashioned as I don’t need a smartphone. Maybe the day I get one then I will “need” it. For the moment I would be happy if smartphones had real keyboards (like those sliders with full QWERTY keyboard) and a real telephone keypad besides the touch screen. Anyone tried to dial a phone on a touch screen just by touch? Impossible to do. I haven't owned a smartphone yet, but I'm very interested in trying one out in the very near future to see if having the extra features is worth the decrease in battery and possible instability (like freezing).

I definitely prefer the stability and better battery life that feature phones seem to present over smartphones.
