I already knew about the Skydrive 25GB when I “installed” it for my ex girlfriend who got a new PC last week. When I signed up for it, Skydrive was only 5GB and it was beta and I had all sorts of problems. Now it’s all grown up.

Adrive.com was a good call. It looks like for the basic it’s free. I don’t need the desktop client. Will try further later on.

There are other pretty good free online storage sites although they are tied to free email accounts. That’s ok, just sign up for the free email and just use the online storage piece of it.

I’m still really weary about online storage (makes me think they are after my files). Either way – 25 Gigs is a lot of space and I wouldn’t mind uploading my projects on there that have no sensitive personal information. I’m not sure I would pay any money for storage just yet unless there is some serious proof that I’m paying for something that is hacker safe (if there is such a thing)

I went to the http://www.adrive.com and according to a posting of 1/27/09 they no longer have just the Adrive backup, now is going to Adrive desktop that will be a 14-day trial for basic and after that will need to become a signature or premium customer.

Not interested enough in cloud storage at the moment to pay money for it.

Good call on that ADrive find – it’s definitely worth a look. As far as a client is concerned, I don’t believe (although I could be wrong) there’s any local program you could use to access SkyDrive – although that would be really nice to have.

Concerning the safety, it’s no more or less safe than the others out there. But a perk of the SkyDrive system is that the interface makes it very easy to share out, stay private, etc. A lot of effort went into the design, and that counts.

Hi Rich. I know of a site that offers 50GB of free storage. http://www.adrive.com/. They do have a desktop client as well but it’s only for “Signature” and “Premium” members. But I don’t think skydrive has a desktop client or would that be LiveSynch? Anyway yes 25GB free is awesome. I just wonder how long it will last and is it a safe place to back up your data?

Love it! I used box for a while but was too limited without paying. I will definitely be giving this a shot, I just realized that is one more thing Microsoft offers that Mac does not. Lots of online services. Of course Mac users think google is Mac.
