Skype over the years has proven itself to be faithful reliable service. Computer-to-Computer “calls” have always been free, but you have to pay in order to connect to regular phone numbers – although it should be said their rates have always been very competitive and a good deal for the money.
According to Skype’s blog, they currently have a promotion where you can call almost anywhere free for a month. And yes it includes both landlines and mobile numbers. Many countries have unlimited minutes during the free promotional period while others are limited to between 60 and 400 minutes. Even with the minute limitations on some countries, we’re talking free international calls here.
One last note: The calls do fall under what Skype terms as their Fair Usage Policy. It’s explained directly in the first two sentences:
Calls to phones and mobiles and Skype To Go* calls are included in your subscription subject to a fair usage limit of 10,000 minutes per user per month, with a maximum of 6 hours per day. Also, no more than 50 different numbers in total can be called per day.
In other words, unless you plan on making more than 50 calls and/or talking on the Skype service for more than 6 hours daily, you’ll be in good shape.
