Sneak Peak: Vista SP1

APC Magazine has posted a sneak peak of Windows Vista SP1, which is due out some time in late 2007 or early 2008. According to the report, it’s looking good. They report significantly better performance.

This is going to be great when they FINALLY release this thing. I really think Microsoft inflicted a disservice onto their customers by releasing Vista before it was ready. Sure, it works. But, it runs like a beta operating system. My list of grievances with Vista is rather long. This is not to say that it doesn’t work. It does. I’m using it right now. But, compared to XP, it’s just not stable.

And the kicker is that I highly doubt ANY of this is a surprise to Microsoft. They had to have known this thing was not ready, otherwise SP1 would not be such a radical improvement. So, it begs the question: Did Microsoft put their customers second to their bottom line?

I agree. Microsoft has always taken advantage of their customer base, by releasing versions of Windows that are not quite ‘finished’, and making a few very basic changes and reselling the same thing to us again and again under a new ‘version’, when they should have been merely service pack upgrades all along. Windows 95 versions A, B, and C, then 98 which was a misery so then came 98 2nd edition, and then the halfway versions such as ‘ME’. Vista as released is a system hog and runs so very slow and unstable. I put it on PC’s I’ve sold and ALL came back requesting that I take Vista off and put XP on them.

You are right about Microsoft taking advantage of their customers not only on computers but all products. That seems to be the trend today, get something processed, have an update already at hand, and release the first version. You can be sure that when they release a product there are two or three updates already to go that they hold back. They know how to make a buck at the disdavantage of the customer.
Regarding Vista, I recently updated to Premium and found that the minimum RAM needed is 1 gig. However, one and a half to two is even preferred. When I updated to Premium I started having troubles with my system. But that’s another story. Overall I like Vista, mine runs smooth and fast. I like all the technology. Unfortunately, my tower soon will be on its way back to HP for repair or replacement. Not sure of the cause.

  3. I don’t know what you guy’s are talking about….Vista runs great on my home built system….the networking works great…it installed the first time without any issues….can’t say that about XP….by the time you download all the patches for XP you will most likely get a virus…I like it so much I installed it on my Mom’s computer….Ok..that said…Not all of my Games work right, but most do. I guess I have a strong enough system, E6700 with 2 gigs of memory and a Nvidia 8800GTX card, that I don’t notice any slow performance. It just seems to me people complain just for the sake of complaining. I will say that the one thing I do hate about it is all of the windows poping up wanting permission to execute something I just told it to do. Just do it already!

    Just my 2 cents.
