I will provide a listing of some eggs for you to try.
Ripping on Adobe
The programmers of Paint Shop Pro, at Jasc software, have programmed a little prank to make fun of Adobe, obviously
a competitor. It works in versions 5 and 6. I have not yet tried it in 7. Follow these instructions:
- Go to Help / About
- Press the Shift and CTRL keys, hold them, and double-click on the Paint Shop Pro logo.
- Type “paintshoppro” (no quotes). You will not see the letters as you type.
The result will be that the About page will switch over to a picture of a dog holding a cat in its mouth, with
credit given to the programmer. The “atomic dog” represents Jasc and the cat is Adobe. Pretty clever, huh?
Falling Books
This one is kinda stupid, but try it anyway. In WinRaR, do this:
- Go to Help / About
- Double-click on the books.
- Watch them fall and bouce.
Outlook Credits
This one works on earlier versions of Outlook 2000. If you patched it to SR1, it will not work.
- Type “Ren Hoek” (without the quotes) into the “Find a Contact” box on the toolbar and press Enter. (Outlook
will say that it cannot find the requested contact.) - Click on this menu item: Tools->Macro->Macros.
- In the “Macro Name:” box, type “OL2KRocks” (without the quotes).
- Click the Create button.
- The “About Microsoft Outlook” dialog appears.
- Hold down the CTRL-ALT-SHIFT keys and click OK.
The Outlook 2000 team credits appear, along with a game. Try to catch the names as they fly across in the mailbox.
The Virus Team
In Norton Anti-Virus 2000, you can get a picture of the development team.
- Go to Reports.
- Hold CTRL-SHIFT and double-click on the empty space below the option for viewing the virus List.
You can move your mouse cursor over the picture to get messages in the Title Bar. Pretty kooky.
Nero Mind!
In Ahead Nero Burning ROM, you can get a list of credits in weird effects.
- Go to Help / About
- Double-click anywhere on the About Window. Each time you double-click you will see credits in different
scrolling effects. There are four to choose from.
Magic Eight Ball
If you need an answer to your question, try the Magic Eight Ball in Microsoft Access. This works in Access 97 and
Access 2000 (patched versions).
- Open Access and open a blank database.
- Click on Macros, then “New” to create a Macro.
- Type -SPACE- (space bar once) and close the window. Hit Yes on the dialog box that appears.
- Save the Macro as “Magic Eight Ball” (no quotes).
- Go to “VIEW/TOOLBARS/CUSTOMIZE” and check off macro design
- Drag the macro to the second toolbar. An eight-ball icon will appear in the toolbar.
Pressing the eight ball will generate your answer every time!
