If you are using Windows XP Professional, you can perform a little tweak to speed up your broadband connection:
1. Click Start, Run.
2. Type “GPedit.msc”.
3. Expand the “local computer policy” branch.
4. Expand the “administrative templates” branch.
5. Expand the “network branch”.
6. Highlight the “QoS Packet Scheduler” in the left window.
7. In the right window, double-click “limit reservable bandwidth”.
8. On the setting tab, check “enabled”.
9. Change the “Bandwidth limit %” to zero.
10. Close the window and reboot.
