Stomp Click N’ Burn 2.0

While CNB is certainly a good program and more than functional, there are some interface issues that I, as a reviewer, have to mention.

I mentioned, above, one error message I got in the course of using the software. I have no idea what that error message means, and some looking around in the help file produced no explanation. I checked the Stomp website and found no explanation of the error messages of the type that I experienced. Many of the error messages that I got were harmless, yet were very much Greek. The designers of CNB should decipher many of these error messages directly in the user interface and lose the numbers (Command: xxxx. Sense: xxxx ASC: blah blah). It confused me and would likely confuse others.

Secondly, it is my personal opinion that it is a drawback for a Windows program to have its help system in HTML format. Opening the Help file for CNB in the Help menu does nothing more than open an HTML file, and that HTML file does not look professional and is not very helpful. Some time spent on creating a real Windows help system with some additional useful information (maybe explain the error messages above) would be great.

Lastly, some of the wording in the program is not completely grammatically correct (of course, it was probably people like myself who wrote it), and on the “Options” dialog box, the Submit and Cancel buttons almost seem to run off the bottom of the window.

If these things are improved upon, it’d really improve the overall feeling of the software. I almost hate to hammer the product on this because, as a burning utility, this is good software. But its the difference between totally professional looking software and software that looks like it was programmed by an end user, even though it is good stuff

The Bundle

I cannot say that I’m flabbergasted with CNB, but when you take the included software bundle into consideration, then I’m convinced this is a good deal. The CD comes with:

  • Click-n-Design Silver – a fairly powerful program that works with many label templates to create nice looking labels for your CDs. Its every bit as powerful as other such programs, and the Pro version (sold separately) looks even more so.
  • Click-n-Edit Sound LE – a program to help you record and edit sound files before burning them to CD
  • Veritas Simple Backup – perform system backups to your CD-RW drive
  • Veritas DLA – allows you to use your CD-RW like a floppy drive. Similar to DirectCD.

With that kind of bundle for a price of $49.95, you really can’t go wrong.

Conclusion

Click-n-Burn Pro really is a good CD burning program. As someone who uses Nero all the time, would this make me switch? No. If I had a CD-RW drive and had to buy a fresh set of software to power it, then I would definitely consider this software.
