I use Google Calendar quite a bit. I find it to be a great tool for time management. Recently, though, it was announced that you can sync your Google Calendar with your Iphone. So, I tried it and I filmed it as I went.
All in all, it is a smooth process to set up. If you have anything in your calendar on the Iphone beforehand that you care about, you need to back it up first because syncing with Google will completely overwrite anything currently on your phone.
The other thing is that you can only sync up to 5 calendars with your phone. If you use a lot of different calendars on Google, you’ll have to pick and choose. I found that to be unfortunate and I’m not exactly sure why they limit it. In my case, I use multiple calendars to categorize different types of tasks on my schedule so it is limiting to only be able to carry 5 of them over to the phone.
Nonetheless, here is the video:
Note that you do NOT have to have an Iphone to set up this sync. It will work on Windows Mobile and Blackberry as well.
I have always maintained by Apple’s MobileMe isn’t necessary and this sync with Google only solidifies that.

Do you have to have Microsoft Exchange to do this? Doesnt MS Exc cost money?
No, Google takes care of it and the Iphone comes with Exchange support built-in.
Sync ‘em works well with my Blackberry too. I’m able to sync my Calendar and Contacts from my phone or computer without any problem at all!
When this is done, are you able to change your calendar on your iphone and have the changes occur on your Google cal? Also, I have heard that this uses a lot of battery. Is this true? I am concerned about this because I don’t have an unlimited data plan (could cost big $$$$???) and I don’t really need to sync it more than once a day. I was simply trying to sync my phone to my Mac so that the calendars would sync, but for some reason, that would not work. If you could give me some info, or perhaps answer the question of the non syncing icals that would be great!
ps. I have read some stuff that you can now have up to 25 calendars synced… still trying to figure out which way is going to work……
I have a google apps domain and on one iphone running 3.0 i have upto 25 calendars and the other iphone 2.x i only get 5 calendars. Is the 5 calendar a limit of 2.x os on iphone? any one else noticed this?
