System Startup And Hijack Analyzer

If you have browsed the PCMech Forums, you probably see the occasional HijackThis log uploaded to a post. Another program similar to this which you might want to take a look at is Runscanner.

This freeware program is very similar to what HijackThis offers:

RunScanner is a freeware windows system utility which scans your system for all running programs, autostart locations, drivers, services and hijack points.

There are two modes offered, one for beginners (where the results are formatted to post on a forum) and expert (where you can see and do everything). Of course there is the clear warning that you should make sure you know what you are doing before you change any of your settings:

Runscanner requires advanced knowledge about Windows. If you delete an item, without knowing what it is, it can lead to major Windows problems. If you are not sure what to delete, post your Run file to a helper forum [, such as the PCMech forums]

Additionally on the Runscanner page, there are convenient search boxes where you can type in process names and GUID’s to identify what stuff is yourself.
